Afrika ist mit einer Fläche von 30,3 Mio.
km² (22 % der gesamten Landfläche der Erde) nach Asien und Amerika
der drittgrößte Kontinent. Afrika ist im Norden vom Mittelmeer, im
Westen vom Atlantik, im Osten vom Indischen Ozean und dem Roten Meer
umgeben. Die einzige Landverbindung zum asiatischen Kontinent,
bildet der Sinai. Die Sahara teilt den Kontinent in das
hauptsächlich von Arabern bewohnte Nordafrika und das südlich davon
gelegene Schwarzafrika. With an area of 30.3 million km² (22% of the total land area of the earth), Africa is the third largest continent after Asia and America. Africa is surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea to the north, the Atlantic Ocean to the west, the Indian Ocean and the Red Sea to the east. The only land connection to the Asian continent is Sinai, which lies between Africa and the Arabian Peninsula. The Sahara divides the continent into North Africa, which is mainly inhabited by Arabs, and Black Africa to the south. |
